It was a bit nerve wracking writing Jody’s 1st blog but here goes:
England beat Italy-After a few early scares
Well after what can only be described as an appalling performance against the Scots last weekend it was good to see us get a win under our belts. The Italians had caused France some issues at the breakdown in their previous fixture but we were pretty strong there on Saturday with the forward pack doing a decent job.
England played at a much better pace and overall had the lion’s share of possession and territory. Our discipline is still a concern, in all we conceded 12 penalties probably 4-6 more than a team of England’s calibre should. We also still need to work on our handling as we simply made too many errors under very little pressure. To sum it up I would say the team is still not clicking but there were some individual moments of brilliance and some good individual performances.
Players worth a mention: Luke Cowan-Dickie, Dan Robson and the Tooting Train (Kyle Sinckler) who was deservedly named man of the match.
Talking points
Jonny May’s try – Was it a try?
As an Englishman that’s easy, yes! It was a fantastic piece of skill from one of the best wingers in the world and just what England needed. If I wasn’t English then no it wasn’t a try as he definitely jumped into the tackle.
Jack Willis injury
For the 5 or so minutes he was on he was everywhere and scored a try. His injury was horrible and by the sounds of things he is going to need some surgery. Another extended break for Jack the Jackaler. I wish him all the best for a speedy recovery. Time to look at the crocodile clear out??
Elsewhere in the 6 Nations
How did France look? Well, not like France in defence, discipline and organisation but very like France in attack. They are working together as a team and are looking like the real deal with Antoine Dupont leading the charge.
Great interview with the architect of these changes (in my opinion) Shaun Edwards:

Wales flattering to deceive?
The Fagerson red card was the defining moment for me. Clear line of sight, from distance, no mitigation and contact to the head a clear red. Seems to be causing a bit of a storm on Twitter as he’s received a 4 week ban which means no more 6 nations this year for him.
Champagne moment for me, Louis Rees Zammit’s great chip and chase for his try. Wales played well but again against 14 men as they did against Ireland. Sterner tests to come (hopefully against 15 men) but with players returning from injury they are 2 for 2 in the championship and looking like possible contenders again.
